Tara Elizabeth Long, PG_livestream_10052020_scorpion, 2020

PG_livestream_10052020_scorpion (2020) is part of a new series of experimental lo-fi abstract digital collages scored with sound performances by artist Tara Elizabeth Long. Bringing together music, text, and video in a virtual environment, the work is accompanied by this repeatedly chanted question: “Am I losing my mind?” The artist started working on sound performances and videos in response to a lingering sense that the future has been foreclosed upon. The emotional and economic insecurity that attends to this condition has, of course, only become more prominent and lacerating in a time of pandemic and quarantine.

Tara Elizabeth Long is an interdisciplinary artist. As a musician, she performs under the name Poorgrrrl, and has released two EPs, Pitiparti and All Smoke No Fire. She has performed at hundreds of experimental sound shows and music festivals. Long is also a curator of the International Noise Conference, Miami. Currently, she is researching the history of noise music and creating scores for experimental videos and livestream performances.

ICA Miami’s Digital Commissions series is made possible by the Knight Foundation and expands the museum’s commitment to fostering artistic experimentation and commissioning new works, as well as engaging audiences with innovative artistic voices.
