In this course, educators will explore how Inuit artist Shuvinai Ashoona captures indigenous Arctic life and the people and animals around her. The medium in the first activity is drawing. The second activity combines printmaking and drawing with an optional extension of collage.

About Shuvinai Ashoona

Shuvinai Ashoona (b. 1961) is a third-generation Inuit artist living in Kinngait, formerly Cape Dorset in Nunavut, Canada. Many of the artists in her family were carvers and printmakers. Her exhibition at ICA Miami is the artist’s first US museum presentation featuring a series of enigmatic drawings and prints observing the evolution of indigenous Arctic life.
