Family Day Animation Film Festival: Eleanor’s Secret (2009)
Explore the magical world of animation this summer with ICA Miami’s Family Day Animation Film Festival, a non-competitive celebration of unconventional family-friendly storytelling through filmmaking. In addition to virtual screenings, ICA Miami will provide supplemental “how-to” videos giving families an insider’s look into some of the innovative techniques used to create a modern animated feature film, as well as a foundation for putting creativity into practice.
Instructions for Accessing Films
This event is open to families in Miami-Dade County only and capacity is limited. Upon successful RSVP to the Family Day Animation Film Festival, you will receive an email confirmation containing links and passwords to the films. These films are available for 24 hours beginning at 10am on Sunday, June 21, 2020.
Feature Film: Eleanor's Secret (2009, dir. Dominique Monféry, France)
Natanaël, seven, still doesn’t know how to read. His eccentric old aunt bequeaths her house to his parents and her book collection to the young boy. Nat discovers that the books serve as a shelter for all the heroes found in children’s literature. They are the original characters and are counting on him for protection. For if they leave the library, they will disappear along with their stories forever! When his parents start selling off the books, Nathanaël, who is shrunk by the evil witch Carabosse, braves everything to save his tiny friends.

Short Film: FLIPPED (dirs. Hend Esmat, Lamiaa Diab, 2018, UK)
FLIPPED (2018) explores the absurdity of a world where the roles of kids and adults are switched. The story follows a day full of bizarrely reversed interactions, unraveling the dynamics of this relationship, tackling topics about maturity and parenting in a comic way.

Miami Design District's Healthy Recipes series
Miami Design District’s chefs are participating in Healthy Recipes as part of ICA Miami’s Family Day Animation Film Festival! Watch chef Yaniv Cohen, owner of Politan Row’s Israeli restaurant, Jaffa, and his daughter Rachel make gluten-free pancakes, spiced with lemony-sumac and carrots—a healthy breakfast with a Middle Eastern twist! About Family Day at ICA Miami
Family day is a free monthly event by the Miami Design District and the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami that encourages community engagement with art + design through interactive activities and performances for all ages. These events are scheduled the 3rd Sunday of the month and presented throughout the Design District and ICA Miami. Our family memberships offer additional opportunities to learn and engage with contemporary art.
