First Fridays Online ft. Eartheater (NYC/PAN)
Join us in November for a celebration of fearless experimental music as we welcome Eartheater (PAN) to First Fridays Online presented by ICA Miami’s Innovation Partner, MINI! More performances will be announced soon.
Eartheater (aka Queens-based artist Alexandra Drewchin) distills foley-filled digital production, a three-octave vocal range, and classical composition into works suspended between obsessively detailed sonic tapestries and almost recklessly romantic and gestural electronica. A body of viscerally emotive live performance stands alongside her recorded output, realized by her fearless physical investment and gut-wrenching vocal sincerity.
Eartheater made her full-length debut in 2015, releasing two consecutive albums on Hausu Mountain, Metalepsis and RIP Chrysalis. Taken together, the twin LPs were a fully realized artistic statement from her newly minuted solo project, and both records received widespread critical acclaim for their experimentation with pop paradigms. In 2018, Eartheater signed to PAN, to release her third album, IRISIRI. The record was heralded in the press for its shifting network of abstract songcraft, laced with sudden structural upheavals and collisions of mutated themes from numerous sonic vocabularies. Guest spots on IRISIRI include Odwalla1221 on “Inhale Baby” and Moor Mother on “MMXXX.” In 2019, Eartheater released Trinity, a collaborative mixtape made with producers Acemo, Dadras, Tony Seltzer, Color Plus and more. Trinity was self-released on Eartheater’s own imprint, Chemical X.
In addition to her own material, Eartheater has been commissioned by visual artist Tony Oursler for his 2018 video installation Tear of the Cloud, as well as video artist duo Semiconductor for their collaborative 2019 tour titled Fracture Patterns. In 2018, Eartheater was tapped by contemporary classical orchestra Alarm Will Sound to compose six original pieces titled When Fire Is Allowed To Finish. Throughout it all, Drewchin has pursued an unflinching touring schedule, sharing bills with Actress, Oneohtrix Point Never, Jenny Hval, Yves Tumor, Juliana Huxtable, Gazelle Twin, Tim Hecker, Nicolas Jaar and performing at international festivals like Unsound, Le Guess Who?, MIRA, CTM, Donaufestival and Warm Up at MoMA PS1.
