ICA MIAMI Narratives Teaching Artist

ICA Miami is looking for an experienced teaching artist for its upcoming season of ICA Narratives.

The Narratives Teaching Artist will provide an innovative and creative project focused on themes of identity, social justice, and empowerment for participants in ICA Miami’s Narratives program. The teaching artist will be featured on ICA’s Miami education page of the website and participate in one community talk focused on their practice and how it relates to the project created for the program.

The teaching artist will present the students’ completed projects in an annual exhibition during ICA Miami’s family day program in the Learning Center and will create a comprehensive art-making program for families during the event. In addition, teaching artists will assist in any additional community engagement initiatives as directed by the Community Programs Coordinator when appropriate.

The teaching artist will commit to a total of 34 weeks; or two 12-week sessions and one 10-week session for 15 hours per week.

Approximate Dates:
Fall: September 19-December 16, 2022 (excluding November 21-25 for
Thanksgiving/Winter Break Dec. 23-Jan. 6th)
Winter/Spring: January 2 – April 14, 2023 (excluding March 20-24 for spring break)
Summer: May 31- August 4, 2023

Responsibilities

  • Submit overview of program to be implemented for approval by Director of Education and Community Engagement and Community Programs Coordinator every new session.
  • Provide a material and equipment list to the Community Programs Coordinator by assigned deadline.
  • Supply supporting materials, such as artwork, bio, diagrams or photos for ICA Miami’s marketing materials as needed.
  • Implement all workshops at each partner location in collaboration with Narratives Site Coordinator.
  • Submit a completed instructor report at the end of each individual workshop at each location.
  • Work with ICA staff to curate and install the final exhibition at designated time.
  • As part of the final exhibition during ICA Miami’s family day event, oversee and implement hands-on art making activities with volunteers on assigned dates.
  • Work with ICA staff to de-install the exhibition.
  • Develop and implement final presentation at selected sites in collaboration with Narratives Site Coordinator.
  • Participate in one scheduled talk on practice and project. (TBD)
  • Work with Community Programs Coordinator to assist in any additional duties including special community engagement initiatives.
  • Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree (BFA, BA, BS, etc.) in a related field
  • At least 1-2 years of experience teaching art
  • Cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Work with a diverse set of community-based organizations, residents, and stakeholders.
  • Work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Some experience in community organizing is helpful, team building, and group dynamics.
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient computer skills, especially using Microsoft Suite and Google Suite of applications.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation, be able to drive a car, and have appropriate auto insurance coverage, and a valid Florida Driver’s license
  • Bilingual preferred, Spanish/French Creole
  • A background check is required
  • Proof of vaccination is required

    Physical Requirements & Work Environment

    1. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and have access to reliable transportation. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
    2. Must be flexible working in a fast-paced, non-profit environment.
    3. Must be willing to undergo clearances/ background checks for school and community sites.
