About Tomoo Gokita
Tomoo Gokita (born 1969, Tokyo) is a graphic designer, illustrator and painter best known for creating monochromatic portraiture that blurs the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. At once comical and disturbing, Gokita’s Pop-Surrealist portraits draw from a variety of found sources—including vintage postcards, classic film stills, and magazines—featuring models with obfuscated faces and distorted bodies. Gokita has participated in solo exhibitions at Honor Fraser, Los Angeles, California (2015); the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art, Sakura, Japan (2014); and ATM Gallery, New York (2010, 2009) among others. He currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.
