About Psychic TV

Born in 1981 from industrial music pioneers Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV is fronted by Throbbing Gristle’s co-founder: antihero, multimedia artist, and “Pandrogenist,” Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. Psychic TV is renowned for intense visceral live performances, and a creative lineage that includes cultural luminaries such as William S. Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Dr. Timothy Leary, filmmaker Derek Jarman and music theorist John Cage, as well as various seminal underground authors, thinkers, artists and filmmakers. Psychic TV is known for crafting highly innovative and unflinchingly provocative music. Psychic TV’s earlier years continued in the experimental vein of Throbbing Gristle’s work, encompassing melodic pop, barely listenable white noise, gentle ballads, industrial found-sound collages, spoken word pieces, and experiments with world music, all tied together by a Dadaist sensibility. Since 2003, P-Orridge has been living as a self-identified “Pandrogyne,” or single entity, subjecting h/erself to multiple cosmetic surgeries as part of an ongoing performance art project, first initiated with h/er lover and former member of Psychic TV, the late Lady Jane Breyer P-Orridge.
