New Approaches to Cinema with Zabet Patterson: Session 1 – The Operational Image
Join Zabet Patterson at ICA Miami for an exploration of images that act in the world rather than simply represent it. Centered on Harun Farocki’s concept of the operational image, this session considers how moving images function within systems of machine vision, computation, and control. What happens to cinema when images are created for machines rather than human viewers? Part of Inhuman Eyes: Operational Images, World Models, Sensing Machines, the session introduces new ways to understand images beyond spectatorship. Potential screenings include Farocki’s Eye/Machine I–III and Hito Steyerl’s How Not to Be Seen.
