Young Artists Initiative

Young Artists Initiative 2021–2022

Young Artists Initiative (YAI) is the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami’s selective youth arts development program. YAI connects young artists (from 9th through 12th grade) to the museum’s collection and local arts community through an immersive program that explores a different theme or practice each year. Participants are encouraged to look critically at contemporary art practices primarily through interactive studio art workshops designed with the museum’s current exhibitions in mind. Throughout the program students have the opportunity to meet leading local and international contemporary artists, participate in a group exhibition at ICA Miami (10th-12th graders), and create works of art to grow their personal portfolios. YAI creates community by connecting multi-talented teenagers from all over South Florida. Students are also offered additional opportunities including a field trip to Art Basel Miami Beach (TBD), scholarships, internships, and summer job opportunities.

2021–2022 Semester

Due to the ongoing public health crisis, the current 2021–2022 semester will be held both virtually and in-person. During the month of October, students will meet over Zoom exclusively; however, by November we will participate in a hybrid meeting structure, convening both in-person and virtually. YAI students are expected to follow the rules and guidelines of the program, participate in weekly meetings and occasional events, complete independent and group activities in a timely fashion, take part in the year-end exhibition in April 2022 at the museum, etc.
