ICA Miami presents a solo project for conceptual artist Eric Doeringer, featuring a selection of Doeringer’s infamous “Bootleg” paintings; alongside a major new series of large-scale works. Doeringer’s practice encourages viewers to question the systems and hierarchies that define value in art, offering a fresh perspective on familiar masterpieces and challenging the boundaries between original and copy.

Doeringer is widely recognized for his witty and incisive practice of re-creating, or “bootlegging,” iconic works by established contemporary artists. These meticulously crafted, often miniature reproductions cleverly dissect the mechanisms of the art market while challenging notions of originality, authenticity and market value. This selection of “Bootleg” paintings offers an unprecedented overview of this seminal body of work, showcasing Doeringer’s breadth of engagement with modern and contemporary art history.

The exhibition will also showcase a new series of large-scale paintings that represent a dramatic departure from Doeringer’s typically miniature reproductions. This new body of work includes paintings that engage the history of the former de la Cruz Collection.By scaling up both physically and conceptually, and referencing artists including Wade Guyton among others, these new works amplify Doeringer’s central questions about artistic authenticity while creating dialogue between his practice and the legacy of the exhibition site—a compelling conversation about artistic influence, collection history, and the continuous evolution of contemporary art narratives.
