A solo project by Berlin-based Konstantino Dregos (b. 1977, Greece), Prima Materia features ten new, large-scale paintings that delve into fundamental questions of existence, matter, and identity. Dregos’s large-scale square canvases are primed with black acrylic and repeatedly inscribed with the formula “+1” in white chalk. The repeated script against black canvases creates an illusion of spatial depth, transforming the two-dimensional surface into a seemingly three-dimensional experience. This visual play extends to the exhibition’s installation, where the sequential arrangement of the panels suggests a temporal progression, inviting viewers to consider each “+1” as a step in both space and time.
