The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami presents a major performance of “Trisha Brown: In Plain Site.” Trisha Brown, a founding figure of the American modern dance movement, and her renowned choreography has inspired generations of dance creators into the 21st century.

The four performances will highlight a selection of seminal dance pieces by Brown, which builds upon the significance of artist Donald Judd’s collaborations and support of his contemporaries, echoing SoHo’s artistic community of the 1970s and ’80s. Donald Judd designed the stage sets for two of Brown’s acclaimed works: Son of Gone Fishin’ (1981) and Newark (Niweweorce) (1987).

Trisha Brown (b. 1936, Aberdeen, WA; d. 2017, San Antonio, TX) was a groundbreaking American choreographer and dancer whose avant-garde work and experiments in pure movement challenged a generation’s perceptions of performance. Prior to establishing the Trisha Brown Dance Company in 1970, Brown was a founding member of the Judson Dance Theater with Yvonne Rainer, as well as the improvisational Grand Union. Throughout her career, Brown collaborated with leaders in music, theater, and the visual arts, including visual artists Donald Judd, Robert Rauschenberg, and Elizabeth Murray, and musicians Laurie Anderson, John Cage, and Alvin Curran, among others.
