ICA Residents: Miami Music Club ft. Drew McDowall

For its inaugural ICA Residents program, ICA Miami partnered with nomadic arts collective Miami Music Club to explore the porous boundary between rhythm and its dissolution. ICA Miami presented a program conceptualized and curated by Miami Music Club, featuring experimental musical artists working outside Florida and paired with local acts of similar tendencies or mindsets.

For its second presentation, ICA Miami and Miami Music Club welcomed Scottish electronic musician and notable collaborator Drew McDowall, an electronic musician who mixes brooding ambience with industrial rhythms, creating longform soundscapes that resonate with intensity. A well-respected fixture of New York City’s thriving experimental electronic scene, McDowall was formerly associated with several notable musical acts, including pioneering industrial and neofolk band Coil, as well as long-running multimedia project Psychic TV. In 2015, McDowall released his long-awaited debut album, Collapse, on Dais Records to acclaim. McDowall’s performance at ICA Residents marked the artist’s first solo appearance in Miami. Support for McDowall included Sarasota-based coldwave electronic project Ortrotasce and Ft. Lauderdale musician Möthersky. DJ Ramiro performed between sets.

Founded in 2015, Miami Music Club is a nomadic space for music, sound, and performance focused on creating alternative social atmospheres. The club works in collaboration with musicians, artists, and institutions in order to encourage ideas and explore potentials unavailable at traditional venues for music and art.
