Spring 2024 Semester: Arts of Jamaica

This spring Art + Research Center seminar series focuses on the Arts of Jamaica and will bring artist and scholarly perspectives on Jamaica and its modern and contemporary cultural production from a variety of art-historical, social, and historical perspectives. This series will chart Jamaica’s cultural influence including the history of Rasta in the context of Jamaica’s decolonization, the political writings of Marcus Garvey and contemporary artistic practices and curatorial approaches at Jamaica’s National Gallery of Art. This seminar series will think through Jamaica’s past and present cultural trajectories through its local context as well as its broader diasporic influence across the Caribbean, Miami, and beyond.
