“In this glum desert, suddenly a specific photograph reaches me; it animates me, and I animate it. I must name the attraction which makes it exist: an animation. The photograph itself is in no way animated…but it animates me: this is what creates every adventure.” Roland Barthes, Camera Lucida1.
Between each moving image is an interval. This seminar will explore concepts of petrification, action, vertigo, and being moved through sequences of moving images, paying special attention to the intervals between them as potentially active spaces.
