Sustainability at ICA Miami
ICA Miami Sustainability Statement
ICA Miami is committed to leading with a sustainable approach to museum operations, exhibitions, and community engagement. Through rigorous analysis, and regular audit, of our systems, we have developed a dynamic institution-wide strategy to foster a culture of sustainability.
Our Environmental Stewardship
Cultural institutions drive change in communities. Acknowledging the environmental impact inherent to operating an art museum, we focus on practical and innovative practices that minimize our impact on the environment.
At ICA Miami, we minimize our ecological footprint by implementing energy-efficient practices, reducing waste, and embracing renewable resources. As of 2023, ICA Miami began a program to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from ENGIE’s Priddy Wind Project (Mills County, Texas) to match 100% of the museum’s forecast electricity consumption.
Additionally, ICA Miami records its carbon impact for exhibitions and purchases carbon offsets. In addition to carbon offsets, ICA Miami is committed to our local environment so for every offset we buy we make a matching contribution to the Florida Audubon Society to help with their efforts to preserve Florida’s natural environment.
Responsible Collections Management
Preserving and showcasing our diverse collections comes with a responsibility to future generations. We are dedicated to employing ethical and sustainable practices in the care and management of our artworks. This includes conservation efforts, responsible sourcing of materials, and the incorporation of eco-friendly preservation techniques to ensure the longevity of our cultural treasures.
Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
Recognizing that sustainability is a collaborative effort, we actively seek partnerships with like-minded organizations, businesses, and individuals. By working together, we aim to amplify the impact of our collective initiatives and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient global community.
In 2021, ICA Miami created an Innovation Committee whose Board-level participants are tasked with proposing long-term strategic initiatives, including a major focus on decarbonization and sustainability.
