Paul Sharits (1943–1993) was an inter-disciplinary artist best known for his experimental films. These highly visceral abstract films often reflect on the uniqueness of medium in order to ask questions about the nature of imagery and perception. A discussion will address the relation of Sullivan’s paintings to the legacy of Sharits’s embodied moving images.

Sharits’s work is held in the collections of in the collections of Museum of Modern Art, New York; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Buffalo, New York. A retrospective was recently organized by Suzanne Pfeffer at the Fridericianum, Kassel.
