ICA Speaks: Roe Ethridge

As part of the inaugural talk for ICA Speaks, world-renowned photographer Roe Ethridge discussed the role of women and gender in his work. Ethridges’s work over the last decade has radically altered the relationship between fashion and fine art photography.

Roe Ethridge (b. 1969, Miami) is a conceptual photographer who combines editorial and fine art photography to create subversions of classical photography and explore new visual experiences. Drawing upon the descriptive power of photography and the ease with which it can be accessed, duplicated, and recombined, Ethridge orchestrates visual fugues in a constantly evolving visual sensibility that have spawned a myriad of copyists. His work has been featured in the Whitney and Lyons Biennials, and is in permanent collections of leading museums worldwide.
